KEEP8.EXE -- utility for SysOps who distribute TVLIST*.* listings files for use
with TV Agent
You will wind up with 31 files in your \TV directory (TVLIST01.ARC thru
TVLIST31.ARC) if you never delete any. This utility keeps the 8 that are
current and deletes the rest. That will save frustration on the part of callers
who don't understand which files they need. If they download an obsolete file
they wasted their time.
The "dd" in TVLISTdd.ARC is the day of the month. KEEP8 looks at your computer
clock and decides what dd is for today and the next 7 days, and then deletes
TVLIST*.* from the current directory if dd is not one of those 8 current days.
You should NOT run KEEP8 immediately at midnight because TV Agent does allow
users to look back at earlier times. For instance if it is 1 AM on the 7th and
a user wants to know what was on at 11 PM on the 6th, he needs to see listings
that are in the file TVLIST06.ARC. If you ran KEEP8 at midnight that file would
be deleted. This is not a big problem, but it probably makes more sense to wait
and run KEEP8 the next morning when you have received new listings files.
Remember that users trying out the demo may want to download listings for the
first 8 days of the latest month even after the 8th. You may want to keep those
TVLIST01 - TVLIST08 in a separate directory with TVADEMO.
